Home Remedies for Gout

Gout is also known is metabolic arthritis. Gout is condition that results from crystals of uric acid depositing in tissues of the body. Gout is a complex disorder that can affect anyone. Men are more likely to get gout than women are, but women become increasingly susceptible to gout after menopause. Gout usually attacks the big toe (approximately 75% of first attacks), however it can also affect other joints such as the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrist, elbow, fingers, and spine. In some cases the condition may appear in the joints of the small toes which have become immobile due to impact injury earlier in life, causing poor blood circulation that leads to gout. There are also different racial propensities to develop gout. In the United States, gout is twice as prevalent in African American males as it is in Caucasians. Approximately one million people in the United States suffer from attacks of gout.

Arthritis dates back to prehistoric times and is seen all through the ages in the joints of the skeleton remains. Most of you will have problems with your joints and it may be arthritis. Arthritis is associated with aging but it is not caused because you are aging. Arthritis is caused by the body not been fed the proper nutrients that keep your joints health and free of wear and tear.

Is the onset of turf toe always the same? Turf toe that is the result of functional hallux limitus is going to be insidious in onset. Functional hallux limitus will usually be seen in younger athletes as they attempt to increase their activity. It may not occur during the first athletic season, or the second, but when it does begin to cause pain, the onset will be more frequent and more severe, varying with activity. This profile of onset is simply due to the fact that the athlete is recreating the injury with every step.

What's the actual physical change that takes place in the joint with turf toe? As an easy analogy, consider the changes that takes place when an apple falls from a height and is damaged. The skin of the apple appears intact but the underlying pulp is damaged. In the case of turf toe (hallux limitus), think of the skin of the apple as the cartilage of the joint and the damaged pulp of the apple is the subchondral bone. Mild cases of turf toe (hallux limitus), result in little damage to the subchondral bone and will merely exhibit signs of inflammatory change within the joint. Most authors would refer to these cases as stage one turf toe (hallux limitus). More severe cases result in damage to the joint surface, the subchondral bone or both. These are the stage two and three cases of turf toe (hallux limitus) that show visible change on x-ray. As the subchondral bone becomes increasingly damaged, it will create an uneven supporting surface for the cartilage. An increase in activity results in uneven loading of the joint due to the compression injury of the subchondral bone.

6. Teaspoon of baking soda with meals will prevent gout attacks. This will help alkalize the body. 7. Squeeze the juice of ?? a lime in 1 glass of water. Drink this morning, noon and night.

Turf toe gets no respect. Let's take a closer look at the causes of turf toe and see how to treat it more effectively. Turf toe is actually a form of hallux limitus. Hallux limitus is classically described as pain and progressive decrease in the range of motion of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint (MPJ). The onset of hallux limitus is due to the following:

In published research results conducted by researchers a Michigan State University, tart cherries contain natural COX 1 and COX 2 inhibitors. In addition, the anthocyanins naturally found in tart cherries are at least 10 times more effective than common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAD's) including aspirin. Anthocyanins help to neutralize swelling in body tissue and can also help to dissolve uric acid crystals that form in the joints. It is due to these crystals that people experience gout pain. Studies also have shown that cherries can actually lower uric acid in the blood.

To date, over 300 different anthocyanins have been identified. Anthocyanins belong to a specific class of flavonoids and each class offers different oxidations states and health benefits. The unique combination of anthocyanins and antioxidants found in tart cherries are shown to reduce inflammation in the body.

Turf toe caused by a direct injury to the joint may or may not be obvious. Athletes may not remember an incident of pain since they're often distracted by the event or game in which they're involved. The onset of direct injury to the joint may be abrupt, but also may be insidious becoming increasingly more painful as the season progresses. The joint pain will subside with rest only to recur with increased activity. It's not unusual to see symptoms of turf toe resolve in the off season only to recur with renewed exercise.

Bursitis ' inflammation of the shoulder joints and muscles. Neuritis ' is know as rheumatism of your nerves. When the sheaths of your nerves dry out you have neuritis

Arthritis means inflammation of the joint. When your joints have bone-to-bone contact and grind against each other that area becomes swollen and inflamed.

Gout is more common with men, people with high blood pressure, alcoholics, diabetics, and obesity. Gout means drop. It was thought by Romans that gout was caused by poisonous crystals coming from the blood, drop by drop, and depositing in the toes.

This little fruit is more widely known as an ingredient in cherry pies then as a pain fighter, but thanks to medical research conducted at a number of medical universities, the tart cherry is an effective treatment for gout and arthritis pain.

Cherries are a potent and natural source of a whole host of antioxidants including anthocyanins, flavonoids, vitamin A, C and E. However, the compound found in the tart cherry that has catch of the attention of gout suffers is anthocyanins. According to medical researchers at Michigan State University, anthocyanins have the ability to relieve inflammation in the body, joints and tissues.

Think of turf toe (hallux limitus) as an isolated case of osteoarthritis limited to the first MPJ. Whether the injury is acute or due to repetitive loading, the result is a load that is applied to the subchondral bone that is greater than what the bone can tolerate. As the injury progresses, a series of micro fractures will develop in the subchondral bone. The typical soft spongy character of the metaphyseal bone changes to become brittle and hard. The result is that the articular cartilage looses its' underlying support and becomes susceptible to damage. Juxtachondral eburnation, osteophytes, lipping, spurring; call them what you like, but what you see on your x-ray is the slow progressive destruction of the joint.

There is some evidence that gout is related to the amount of wine that is drunk with the meal. This put an extra strain on the liver that tries to detoxify the wine and the meal at the same time. Result is the liver is unable to detoxify the complete meal.

Normally you would not expect to see this wear down condition since there are many joints that see excess activity and don't become inflamed or arthritic. There millions of people who don't get arthritis, yet the use their joints are used just as much and perhaps even more. Then there are people who don't use their joint to excess and still get arthritis.

Gouty Arthritis Gout is a disease where uric acid deposits in the joints of feet and legs. When the body has an excess of uric acid, which it can't eliminate through normal channels of elimination- the kidney ' the uric acid settles in the joints and soft tissue causing pain.

Countless joint pain suffers now have a natural way to get relief from gout and arthritis pain. The answer many have been searching for is a simple unassuming fruit grown with a long history of offering great taste. The name of this little fruit is the Montmorency tart cherry. After years of folklore and old wives tales, the tart cherry is coming of age.

When treating turf toe be sure to recognize the fact that there is no nerve innervation in articular cartilage. Pain associated with stage one turf toe (hallux limitus) is either synovial pain or bone pain. If we recognize that painful stage one turf toe (hallux limitus) may be due to bone pain, we then realize that turf toe should be treated aggressively to insure the long term viability of the joint.

Functional hallux limitus - biomechanical function that results in metatarsus primus elevatus and subsequent repetitive jamming of the first MPJ. Direct physical injury - injury to the articular cartilage or subchondral bone. These injuries may be due impaction injuries or hyperextension/flexion of the first MPJ.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a recent disease, which appeared at the turn of the 20th Century. Its cause can be associated with diet where the balance of the joint structure receives chemicals that destroy its balanced condition.

But before we go any further, we need to understand that the terms turf toe and hallux limitus aren't really synonymous. The fundamental difference between the two terms is the patient population that they affect. Turf toe is a term used in athletic circles referring to any injury of the great toe joint. Consequently, discussions about turf toe will focus on the first two causes of hallux limitus mentioned above; functional hallux limitus and direct physical injury. On the other hand, when we discuss hallux limitus, we're actually referring to a broader, 'non-athletic' patient population and need to include all three causes of hallux limitus.

Other Types of Arthritis There are other types of arthritis. These account for a small amount of the types of arthritis that most people have. Here is the list:

There are plenty of joints in your body and typically there are only specific joints that have arthritic pain. Those are the ones that you use frequently. For men it is knees, spine, and feet. For women it is fingers, hands, knees, and spine.

Anatomy: The great toe joint, or first metatarsal joint consists of two bones. The proximal bone is the first metatarsal and the distal is called the proximal phalanx or hallux. These two bone move against each other in an up and down motion through what we refer to as the sagital plane. Biomechanics: The motion of the great toe joint is dependant upon the plantarflexion of the first metatasal. If the first metatarsal is limitied in its' ability to plantarflex, the joint will jam resulting in funtional hallux limitus, which as we know is one of the causes of turf toe.

3. Drink cherry juice for relief from symptoms. 4. Eat foods high in potassium 5. Regular exercise can relieve or prevent joint pain.

There are two main type of arthritis ' osteoarthritis and rheumatoid ' and others that are less known. Osteoarthritis Osteoarthritis means inflammation of the bony part of your joint. As your joints move against each other, the protective coating and surrounding material ' membranes, oil sacs, cartilage ' wear down. This wear down occurs when the joints see excess activity.

Other conditions - synovitis, crystal deposition diseases such as gout, systemic arthritis, external physical influences such as Dupytren's contracture, etc.

Ronconi, P., Monachino, P., Baleanu, P.M.,Favilli, G. Distal Oblique Osteotomy of the First Metatarsal for the Correction of Hallux Limitus and Rigidus Deformity. J. Foot Surg. 39:3, 154-160, 2000

Myositis - pain that comes from working hard and muscles have friction between them. Fibrositis ' is when your connective tissue become inflamed Lumbago ' occurs before you get arthritis of the spine.

Anthocyanins help to restore damages tissues and dissolve uric acid to help stop a gout attack. When a part of the body suffers a gout attack or becomes inflamed, connective tissues begin to swell, separate and tear. As the capillaries break and burst, blood begins to spill over into the surrounding tissues and area. To prevent further damage, anthocyanins rush to the screen and begin to fight any destructive enzymes present. In addition, the tiny anthocyanins help to restore the damaged tissues to its original state.

Many home remedies help for relief Gout. Lemon juice prevents gout attacks by stimulating the formation of calcium carbonate in the body. Calcium carbonate neutralizes acids in the body, including uric acid that triggers gout attacks. Bananas serve as an excellent remedy for curing gout. Consume a diet of bananas for three to four days. Squeeze the juice of ?? a lime in 1 glass of water. Drink this morning, noon and night. Extract ?? a cup of juice of French beans (String beans). Drink this juice everyday for a month. Drink water in abundance 8-10 glasses per day will flush way toxins and dilute the uric acid levels. Lime is a well source in treating gout. The citric acid present in lime is a solvent of the uric acid which is the main cause of this disease. 1) Apples are considered important in Home Remedy for Gout therefore Eat an apple after every meal.

Treatment of turf toe varies with the type of healthcare provider and includes the use of rest, shoe modifications, orthotics, steroid injections and surgery. The success of non-surgical care will vary with the degree of injury, the rate at which the injury is healing and how much osteoarthritis has occurred. We see varying degrees of success with orthotics that promote plantarflexion of the first ray, effectively treating metatarsus primus elevatus and peroneus longus dysfunction. Simple arch supports can make a significant difference in the symptoms of turf toe. Should our patient not respond to conservative care in a reasonable time period, we are not reluctant to suggest surgical revision to address the problem whether it be revisions of the joint defect, shortening of a long first metatarsal or structural revision of metatarsus primus elevatus. As mentioned before, the clinical appearance of dorsal lipping or visible radiographic changes are suggestive of moderately advanced osteoarthritis, a condition that is only repaired by joint revision or replacement.

Functional hallux limitus will usually be seen in younger athletes as they attempt to increase their activity. Gout is a form of arthritis which affects mostly men between the ages of 40 and 50. Gout can also develop as co-morbidity of other diseases, including polycythaemia, leukaemia, intake of cytotoxics, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, renal disorders, and hemolytic anemia. Regularly drinking alcohol interferes increase the risk for developing gout. Other risk factors include is exposure to lead in the environment. High dietary intake of rich foods that contain purine. Medications that may interfere with the body's ability to remove uric acid. Changing the way you eat can help you manage your gout. Eat a healthy mix of foods so you get the nutrients you need. Limit foods like meat, fish, and beer. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. The first line of treatment should be pain relief. Colchicine was previously the drug of choice in acute attacks of gout.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Rheumatoid means "similar to flowing pain." It is an autoimmune disease where good cell and tissue are attack by the immune system. Rheumatoid first affects the joint membranes and later the bone structure at the joint. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs in people of all ages. As this arthritis progresses it can becomes crippling.

Differential Diagnosis: The differential diagnosis of turf toe includes; Arthitis Fracture Gout Joint infection Joint or bone tumor Synovitis

So how much tart cherry is needed to benefit and fight joint pain? According to research, as little as 20 cherries is enough to combat the enzymes damaging the tissue and causing joint pain and inflammation. In addition, to the fresh cherries which are only available for a few short weeks during the summer harvest, tart cherry powder is fast becoming the tart cherry product of choice. Tart cherry powder is a concentrated form of tart cherries that is made from whole cherries and powdered into an easy-to-swallow capsule. For example, Fruit Advantage offers a highly concentrate form of tart cherry powder in which each daily serving is equivalent to 5 glasses of tart cherry juice without the sugar.

So the actual cause of arthritis is more than excess activity. The cause of arthritis has come down to a single or combination of nutritional deficiencies, excess joint activity, and emotional issues.
